Additional Resources

In North Carolina and South Carolina

  • MDC is an organization that works primarily in the Southern states to help communities and organizations close the gap that separates people from opportunity. The website includes publications on economic development, education and strategic philanthropy.
  • The Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina School of Law brings together scholars, policymakers, lawyers, community leaders and students to work on issues of poverty, work and opportunity. Website visitors can sign up for center updates.
  • The South Carolina Rural Development Council, formed in 1991, coordinates rural development efforts among federal departments and agencies and helps establish effective collaboration with states, local governments and the private sector. Its website features links to Internet resources.

Evaluation

The Duke Endowment is committed to a continuous review of its grants and initiatives. All projects are assessed for effectiveness, stewardship and alignment with mission. Because of its broad reach and extensive investments, Program for the Rural Carolinas has been the subject of a formal evaluation review.
