A recent report looks at the roles of small and rural hospital providers in North Carolina and South Carolina.
• Each year, the Endowment, together with the North Carolina Hospital Association and the South Carolina Hospital Association, sponsors a Small and Rural Hospital Conference to address current issues that are unique to small and rural health care executives. The conference draws hospital, health system, association and governmental employees and hospital and health system trustees.
• The North Carolina Rural Health Research & Policy Analysis Center is a part of the Office of Rural Health Policy, which promotes better health care service in rural America. The website contains links to recent publications related to rural health care.
• The South Carolina Rural Health Research Center conducts research on the health issues facing residents of rural communities, and is supported by the Office of Rural Health Policy. The website features publications, recent reports and fact sheets.
• The North Carolina Office of Rural Health and Community Care provides assistance to rural health care providers in North Carolina. The website contains information about the office's programs.
• The South Carolina Hospital Association Small and Rural Hospital Council provides updates on issues and trends facing rural hospitals in South Carolina.
• The South Carolina Office of Rural Health works to make sure that rural South Carolinians have equitable access to quality health care. The website includes information about heath clinics and the "Low Country Healthy Start" program.

• The American Hospital Association monitors issues and concerns facing hospitals, develops policy and identifies solutions to pressing needs. The website includes a section for small and rural hospitals containing advocacy news and recent reports.
• The National Rural Health Association is a resource on rural health issues. The website includes recent articles, reports and event information.
• The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality conducts research and is a part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The rural health section of the website contains information on health care disparities and opportunities to improve health care in rural areas.
