Applying for Grants - Construction/Renovation
Applicants seeking funding for sanctuary, education and multi-purpose facilities
construction or renovation may qualify for Strengthening Organization grants, but
are required to follow a seven-step process before submitting an application or
breaking ground.
STEP 1. Review the
Readiness Checklist.
STEP 2. Complete the Preliminary Planning Guide (formerly called Study Guide).
STEP 3. Schedule a site visit.
STEP 4. Agree to comply with the Terms of Agreement.
STEP 5. Submit preliminary schematic drawings.
STEP 6. Inform the Endowment of construction contract.
STEP 1. Review the Readiness Checklist.
The checklist ensures that you are meeting requirements for the United Methodist
Church, The Duke Endowment and the State of North Carolina.
STEP 2. Complete the Preliminary
Planning Guide (formerly called Study Guide).
Before submitting a formal application, a Local Church Study Committee must determine
the validity of current programs through effective evaluation and planning. The
Committee should involve itself in research, study, discussion, and serious consideration
of the total program going on in the church at the present time and look ahead to
the future. The Preliminary Planning Guide will be a helpful tool as the Committee
conducts their evaluation.
STEP 3. Schedule a site visit.
Once the Preliminary Planning Guide is reviewed, the Endowment will call you to
arrange a site visit (may take up to 4 weeks).
STEP 4. Agree to comply with the
Terms of Agreement.
Upon signing the Terms of Agreement, if plans are approved, you will receive a letter
of notification from the Endowment.
STEP 5. Submit preliminary schematic drawings.
If The Duke Endowment approves the schematic drawings and elevations, you will receive
a letter of notification.
STEP 6. Inform the Endowment of construction contract.
When you have signed a construction contract or have begun construction, alert The
Duke Endowment by phone, email, mail or fax. Depending on the contractor, this step
may take several months.
