At Tamassee DAR School in Tamassee, S.C., a program that evaluated struggling students' learning strengths and styles helped increase confidence and academic performance.

Children living in group homes often are challenged by learning difficulties. The Duke Endowment invested $3 million from 2002-2004 to help teachers and students discover new ways to improve academic performance.
