In North Carolina and South Carolina

• The North Carolina AfterSchool Coalition is a statewide association of after-school care providers that emphasizes accreditation, quality and public policy in the after-school field. The site includes information on training opportunities, accreditation help, policy updates and resources.
• The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services administers the statewide "star" rating system for child care providers, including many after-school programs. This site explains the components and requirements of the system.
• The Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute of the University of North Carolina produces several rating scales, including the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales (ECERS) and the School Age Care Environment Rating Scales (SACERS). This site includes background on SACERS, an overview, reference and supplementary materials.
• South Carolina Department of Social Services/Child Care Services oversees quality and licensure of child care providers, including many after-school programs. This site includes information about licensing and about the ABC Child Care Program, South Carolina's statewide system to improve the quality of child care.

• Citizen Schools is a national model after-school program for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. This site provides information about the organization and results from internal and independent external evaluations.
• The National AfterSchool Association has affiliates in North Carolina and South Carolina. The site includes information on accreditation and professional development.
• The Afterschool Alliance is an advocacy organization for after-school care providers. The website contains policy updates and information and tools for building relationships with national, state and local policymakers.
