In North Carolina and South Carolina

  • The North Carolina Division of Child Development, a division of the State Department of Health and Human Services, deals with child care regulations and licensing. The site includes statistics about child care in North Carolina, resources for parents and providers, and an explanation of requirements for North Carolina's five-star rating system.
  • The North Carolina Partnership for Children provides statewide of the Smart Start initiative and provides training and technical assistance to local Smart Start partnerships. The site includes industry data and evidence-based program reports.

In the United States and Abroad

  • The National Association for the Education of Young Children focuses exclusively on improving the quality of care for children from birth to age 8, and is well known for its accreditation program. This site offers research and information for creating quality programs through both policy and practice.
  • The Foundation for Child Development focuses on improving education in PreK to 3rd grade. The site hosts a searchable resource library, and features evidence-based approaches for estimating national and state-by-state costs for PreK through 3rd approaches.

Evaluation

The Model Child Care initiative ends in December 2009, and the final study is expected early in 2010. A five-year evaluation (pdf) was conducted by Evaluation, Assessment, & Policy Connections (EVAP) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
