Today, The Duke Endowment launches a new and ongoing series that spotlights everyday men and women who are making a difference in their communities. “Profiles of Service” will share behind-the-scenes stories and videos of nonprofit staff and volunteers who dedicate their time, talents and hearts to serve others and improve lives.
They include Pearl Johnson, kitchen manager for Ashe Outreach Ministry, who arrives before dawn to cook hot meals for 60 seniors and shut-ins in rural western North Carolina. “I don’t think I’d really be happy doing anything else,” she says.
We invite you to join us as we honor Pearl, along with Eartha Cunningham, Gary Smiley, and David Holthouser, in our first Profiles of Service.
